TPNPB Kodap II Baliem Wamena Returns Non-Organic TNI Troops Through Peaceful Approach in Goripaga

WAMENA - Non-organic Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) units previously operating covertly in Goripaga area, Wamena, Highland Papua, have been released and returned to their parent unit at the Kimbin Asologaima Military District Command (Koramil) Post. The return of the troops, who had been detained by the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) Defense Regional Command (Kodap) II Baliem Wamena, proceeded conducively without any incidents of violence.

The Secretary General of the People's Democratic Movement of Papua for West Papua (GR-PWP) Central, Dano Tabuni, was present directly in the Goripaga Forest area to monitor the progress of the return process. The presence of this community representative figure aimed to ensure all stages of the Indonesian military evacuation proceeded orderly. Meanwhile, the situation around the location was reported to have returned to calm after the TNI personnel left the area.

Until now, relevant authorities as well as TPNPB Kodap II Baliem Wamena have not released detailed information regarding the initial deployment chronology or the cause of the detention of the non-organic troops. Nevertheless, local residents confirmed that community activities have now begun to return to normal following the return of the Indonesian military personnel from their area.

"Non-organic TNI members are prohibited from repeating the same activities in five districts, namely Asologaima, Pyramid, Muliama, Wame, and Silokarno Doga. If you want an approach with the community, do not bring weapons, but use an approach with garden work tools and do not traumatize and scare the community," said Dano Tabuni, Saturday (13/6/2026).

This persuasive step was taken to prevent psychological trauma to civilians in the five districts that constitute the troop movement routes. TPNPB even tightened supervision in the area to anticipate similar covert military operations in the future. Local customary leaders' representatives are said to welcome the resolution of this situation, which prioritized dialogue without armed contact.

The continuous mediation process between TPNPB and related parties will subsequently be facilitated by the District Head and village government in the near future. TPNPB also stated they will continue to monitor security stability in the Highland Papua region to ensure that the rights of civilians remain protected. (One Papua)
