Military Operation in Yahukimo, TPNPB Reports Arrest of Eight Civilians and Livestock Shot Dead

DEKAI - Military operation which was launched by Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) in Braza Complex, Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua, since 11 to 12 August 2026, was reported triggered arrest toward eight civilian residents and also occurrence of death of one pig livestock as result of being hit by bullet. The operation took place in tense atmosphere when residents were resting in middle of bursts of gunfire which continued to be heard from surrounding area.

​The military operation was driven by TNI marine unit who guarded outskirts of Braza River. This river basin area is known to become main route for Indonesian military and intelligence agency to carry out logistics delivery and troop deployment to center of Dekai City.

​Management of Central Headquarters of West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) assessed action of security apparatus in field has exceeded limit and caused anxiety in middle of civilian society. TPNPB urged Indonesian military to immediately stop arbitrary arrest toward civilian residents.

​"We ask to Indonesian military apparatus to stop doing arbitrary arrest toward civilian residents and also shooting toward livestock belonging to community and murder toward civilian residents to be stopped immediately," said Sebby Sambom, Thursday (8/13/2026).

​TPNPB even challenged TNI troops to directly come to TPNPB Headquarters at Gunung Street if wanting to involve themselves in open battle against TPNPB Defense Command Region (Kodap) XVI Yahukimo troops. TPNPB also asked security apparatus to always obey international humanitarian law and provisions of human rights during carrying out military operation in all defense command regions throughout Land of Papua.
