MULIA - Central Headquarters Management of the National Command of the West Papua National Liberation Army (KOMNAS TPNPB) provided clarification regarding the surrender of four people and four firearms to Indonesian security forces at Military District Command (Kodim) 1714/Puncak Jaya Headquarters, Mulia, Papua. The surrender that took place on 26 September 2026 was confirmed not to come from members nor logistics assets belonging to TPNPB.
​Four people who surrendered were ordinary civilians who were not registered in Defense Regional Command (Kodap) XXVIII Yambi forces. The four firearms handed over were also not recorded in TPNPB inventory. The surrender was purely the family's initiative for the sake of meeting daily living needs in the region.
​"Four civilians and four firearms given to Indonesian security forces at Kodim 1714/Puncak Jaya Headquarters are not part of TPNPB members and assets," said TPNPB Kodap XXVIII Yambi Commander, Brigadier General Lerimayu Enumbi, Sunday (27/9/2026).
​The firearms were originally bought by a House of Representatives (DPR) member who has now passed away, Gulanga, with the aim to secure vote acquisition during the legislative election a few years ago. After the person concerned died, children and relatives of the district head in Guragenikime residing in West Mabuk District brought and handed over the weapons to the Indonesian military.
​The process of weapons surrender by civilians to security forces often occurs in Papua conflict areas, where illegal weapon ownership by non-combatants is usually related to local political dynamics or self-protection. TPNPB ensures all official weapons belonging to defense command are always strictly recorded at central headquarters and do not easily change hands to outside parties.
​"Four firearms and four people who surrendered to the Indonesian government are truly civilians and not TPNPB members, that is their own game," said TPNPB General Operations Commander, Major General Lekagak Telenggen.
​All ranks of TPNPB leadership do not know the four civilians. Handed-over weapons were confirmed not registered at TPNPB Headquarters spread across 36 defense regional commands throughout the Land of Papua. TPNPB also appeals to all public not to speak in the name of the organization for personal interests or certain groups outside the struggle line. (One Papua)
