PAPUA — The Central Headquarters Management of the National Command of the West Papua National Liberation Army (KOMNAS TPNPB) officially announced national mourning over the death of Yosem Kakyarmabin, a logistics soldier from the Defense Regional Command (Kodap) XXXV Bintang Timur. Yosem Kakyarmabin died on Saturday (23/5/2026) due to an illness he suffered from for more than one year.
The late Yosem Kakyarmabin breathed his last breath at the age of 29 after fighting against illness since 15 April 2025. This soldier was born in Esipding on 2 January 1997. During his life, the deceased held a very crucial position within the organizational structure in the Bintang Timur region.
The last position of the deceased was as a war logistics provider for the TPNPB. The main duties carried out included the procurement of weapons and ammunition of various calibers. In addition, the deceased was responsible for all war equipment of the TPNPB forces. The logistics were used by the TPNPB forces to fight against the Indonesian military.
The armed struggle of the TPNPB was carried out to reclaim the independence of the Papua nation which was proclaimed on 1 December 1961. The track record of the deceased in preparing logistics needs on the battlefield was known to be very consistent. The TPNPB referred to the deceased as one of the special soldiers who always carried out duties with full responsibility.
Before passing away, the deceased had time to leave a very deep last message to all his comrades in struggle. The message was intended so that the resistance spirit of the forces in the field would never extinguish despite facing limitations.
"Weapons and ammunition even though few, but the new generation of the TPNPB remains loyal and moves forward to fight until the last drop of blood to reclaim the independence of the Papua nation," said Yosem Kakyarmabin.
The message of the deceased became an important testament for the entire command structure of the TPNPB. The deceased requested that all forces never feel tired facing pressure from the colonial side. The struggle must continue to be carried out until the independence rights of the Papua nation are fully returned by the state of Indonesia.
The Spokesperson of the TPNPB Free Papua Organization (OPM), Sebby Sambom, conveyed that this event is a mourning for the entire Papua nation. The Central Headquarters Management of KOMNAS TPNPB requested all forces to remain solid. The loss of one of the best soldiers must become a whip of spirit to keep stepping forward.
Sebby Sambom urged all TPNPB forces in various defense regions to remain loyal in the struggle for the nation and homeland. The TPNPB emphasized its commitment to never surrender to the Indonesian military authorities.
Meanwhile, the central headquarters management side also reminded the fighters about the essence of a freedom struggle. The principle of defending the homeland must remain firmly held by every TPNPB soldier.
"It is better to die for the independence struggle of the Papua nation than to die in vain for positions and ranks within the colonial system of Indonesia," asserted Sebby Sambom.
The TPNPB also ensured that the organizational wheels and movement in Kodap XXXV Bintang Timur will continue to run. The highest tribute was given to the deceased for his dedication and sacrifice during his time on the front lines of the Free Papua struggle. (One Papua)
