WAMENA - The West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) Kodap III Ndugama Darakma stated responsibility for the shooting of three Indonesian military agents working as Civil Servants (ASN) of the Jayawijaya Regency Agriculture Office in Muliama Village, Muliama District, Wamena City, Jayawijaya Regency on Wednesday 9 September 2026 at around 15.15 WIT.
The victims were shot dead after trying to flee during a vehicle inspection on the Trans Wamena-Tiom Road. The shooting was led directly by the Commander of the Albu Battalion, Major Ebaroak Gwijangge along with Company 1 Kasie and Albu Apldo Nirigi as the Operation Commander.
The operation in the field began when the TPNPB stopped the vehicle carrying the victims to inspect baggage and ask all passengers to remain inside the car. Panic caused the three victims to flee, so the TPNPB decided to shoot them dead so that information on the presence of the TPNPB in Muliama District would not leak to the Indonesian military.
A few hours after the incident, precisely around 17.00 WIT, a gunfight occurred between the TPNPB and the Indonesian military passing by in a car. The armed clash in the area reportedly caused no casualties from the TPNPB, while the condition of the Indonesian military could not yet be confirmed.
This attack is a continuation of a similar action on 17 August 2026 in Welesi, where the TPNPB had issued a stern warning to all parties to obey the established rules.
The TPNPB Kodap III Ndugama Darakma asserted it will never retreat and declared readiness to open a war zone in Wamena City openly.
To tighten movement in the conflict area, the TPNPB urged all two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicle users passing through the Trans Papua route to open car windows, remove helmets, and reduce speed. This rule applies along the Wamena-Tiom, Wamena-Yalimo, Wamena-Jayapura, Wamena-Tolikara routes, up to remote areas of Papua.
All government activities in Wamena City were requested to be stopped from 07.00 to 15.00 WIT. Exceptions are only granted to vital facilities such as hospitals, schools, and community activities guaranteed by international humanitarian law.
The TPNPB emphasized the next operational targets include regional officials, village heads, and civil servants, both indigenous Papuans and non-Papuans. The TPNPB considers these bureaucrats part of Indonesian government agents extending the governance system in the land of Papua.
The Indonesian government was urged to immediately open international negotiation space with the TPNPB. This diplomatic step is considered the only way out to resolve the root of political problems and end the prolonged armed conflict.
Meanwhile, the Papua Intelligence Service (PIS) of the TPNPB mentioned the presence of a civil servant at the Governor's Office in Wamena suspected of acting as a member of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) to gather military information. The TPNPB issued a stern warning for all parties connected to the Indonesian military to immediately leave Wamena City and surrounding areas.
The TPNPB also reminded migrants and residents involved in intelligence activities to immediately return to their respective home regions for their safety.
