YAHUKIMO – A joint operation of the TPNPB Defense Regional Command (Kodap) XVI Yahukimo and TPNPB Kodap III Ndugama-Derakma reportedly shot four members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) from the Marine unit on KPU Street and the Kali Biru area, Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency.
The armed attack that took place on Friday, 28 August 2026 was led directly by the Operations Commander of TPNPB Kodap XVI Yahukimo, Major Kopitua Heluka, together with Dejang Heluka and the leader of Battalion WSM TPNPB Kodap III Ndugama-Derakma, Major Nabianus Gerebea, who was accompanied by Asbrak Koranue and troops of Battalion Yamue.
TPNPB stated it is ready to take full responsibility for the armed attack against the four Indonesian military personnel. "TNI Commander Agus Subyanto and Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin must immediately announce all victims who have died in the battlefield in Yahukimo," stated the Central Headquarters Management of the TPNPB National Command (KOMNAS), Sunday (30/8/2026).
TPNPB also appealed to the Indonesian military not to carry out brutal arrests or shootings against civilians in the entire Yahukimo region.
The attack on KPU Street and Kali Biru was carried out purely by troops of TPNPB Kodap XVI Yahukimo together with TPNPB Kodap III Ndugama-Derakma. TPNPB emphasized that if the Indonesian military wants to conduct a pursuit, the TNI is asked to directly come to the TPNPB Headquarters which is always ready to serve battle in the field.
The Papua Intelligence Service (PIS) of TPNPB reported that a day after the shooting incident on 28 August 2026, a deployment movement of Indonesian military troops occurred using civilian flight aircraft heading to Yahukimo. Indonesian military troops were moved secretly from the aircraft to several tactical vehicle cars with full combat equipment. The troops were directly brought toward the Indonesian Military Headquarters to carry out military operations from village to village in remote areas that are difficult to reach by telephone or internet networks.
TPNPB urged the Indonesian Government to respond to this situation and warned all parties to monitor the condition of civilians in remote areas.
TPNPB also asked the Indonesian Government to immediately stop the utilization of civilian flight airlines for the logistics interests or deployment of military troops in the Land of Papua. The Indonesian Government is asked to obey and uphold international humanitarian law in the armed conflict currently taking place.
TPNPB found that a number of civilian flight airlines are still actively serving Indonesian military transport in the Land of Papua until now. TPNPB emphasized that all aircraft along with civilian pilots caught helping Indonesian military movement are ready to be executed to death whenever and wherever. This harsh warning becomes a serious attention that must be heeded by the Indonesian Government and all pilots operating in the Papua conflict region. (One Papua)
