PAPUA - The West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) headquarters in Puncak Jaya was hit by dozens of aerial bomb attacks from Indonesian military drones from 16 to 19 August 2026. These consecutive attacks destroyed the headquarters yard, and damaged the walls and roof severely due to explosion vibrations. Even though the bomb attacks spread, there were no casualties in the incident.
​Aerial bomb attacks hit the Puncak Jaya hilly area massively within four days. The initial attack occurred on Sunday, 16 August 2026, starting from 06.30 to 10.00 WIT. The Indonesian military deployed ten drone units to drop bombs towards the TPNPB headquarters from behind the mountain.
​The bombing action continued until Wednesday, 19 August 2026, around 09.19 WIT until afternoon by deploying nine drone units. The bomb impacts exploded right on the ground surface, triggering severe vibrations and scattering material fragments.
​"Drone attacks occurred repeatedly, but there were no casualties from TPNPB," said Lekagak Telenggen, Thursday (20/8/2026).
​TPNPB urged the Indonesian Government to enforce and execute international humanitarian law in the armed conflict in Papua Land.
​Enforcement of these international rules is very important to guarantee balanced use of military weaponry main systems. This balanced step is believed capable of preventing casualties from civilian circles.
​Meanwhile, TPNPB asked the Indonesian military, including Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers, to immediately vacate civilian residential areas and move defense posts from residential yards.
​"Indonesian military personnel must leave civilian residential areas so TPNPB counterattacks do not victimize society," said Lekagak.
​The National Command Central Headquarters Management (KOMNAS) TPNPB documented and attached several bomb fragment proofs resulting from the aerial attacks. These bomb material fragments became proof of the massive bombardments that took place throughout 16 to 19 August 2026 in Puncak Jaya.
​The Puncak Jaya region indeed became one of the armed conflict escalation areas that is quite intensive in Central Papua Province.
​TPNPB also emphasized readiness to continue maintaining defense command positions in the hilly area. Enforcement of warfare ethics and protection toward civilians is referred to as main priority in the ongoing conflict dynamics in Papua Land. (One Papua)
