TOLIKARA - The West Papua National Liberation Army Command of Defense XXVII Yambi has claimed responsibility for the shooting that targeted a man named Aryo Saputra at the Old Pertamina Complex, Tolikara Regency. The shooting incident occurred on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at approximately 7:25 PM Eastern Indonesia Time.

​Aryo Saputra was referred to as an Indonesian military intelligence agent. Aryo was accused of frequently being involved with the Indonesian military apparatus in Tolikara. Aryo also regularly sought to find out information regarding the whereabouts of the West Papua National Liberation Army troops.

​Therefore, he became the target in the attack. The West Papua National Liberation Army stated that it is ready to take full responsibility for the shooting.

​The victim was immediately secured by his colleagues to the Main Post of the Republic of Indonesia-Papua New Guinea Border Security Task Force of the 511th Dibyatara Yudha Infantry Battalion in Tolikara. The evacuation of the victim was directly led by First Lieutenant of Infantry Imam Eko Santoso along with ten colleagues of the victim from the Indonesian National Armed Forces.

​The Management of the Central Headquarters of the National Command of the West Papua National Liberation Army asserted a warning to Indonesian immigrant residents and Papuan people who are actively involved with the Indonesian military apparatus. They were stated to be ready for execution by death. The West Papua National Liberation Army is even ready to take full responsibility for the shooting.

​The West Papua National Liberation Army also appealed to Indonesian immigrant residents to leave the armed conflict zones throughout the Land of Papua. The appeal was issued so that residents no longer become victims of the shootings and attacks carried out by the West Papua National Liberation Army.
