MAKASSAR - The Solidarity Forum of Students and College Students Caring for the Papuan People (FSPM-PRP) Makassar City of Study schedules a peaceful demonstration action titled "Papua Military and Investment Emergency" on June 29, 2026. The action aims to voice public aspirations related to the development of social, security, and economic policy situations in Papua.
​The organizing party states this momentum is a right of expressing opinions in public guaranteed by the constitution and laws. All technical preparations continue to be matured by the internal organization to ensure the mass movement proceeds in an orderly and peaceful manner.
​"We from the Solidarity Forum of Students and College Students Caring for the Papuan People Makassar City of Study convey that on June 29, 2026, we will execute a peaceful action with the theme Papua Military and Investment Emergency," said Frans Awom, Monday (28/6/2026).
​The statement is conveyed to emphasize that there must not be any acts of intimidation or restriction from outside parties during the activity. Students assess the democratic space must be opened as widely as possible without any physical or psychological intervention from authorities.
​Institutionally, the main responsible party of this agenda is under the coordination of the National Committee for West Papua (KNPB) and the Papuan Students Alliance (AMP). Both organizations act as steering elements in the student mass mobilization in the Makassar region.
​Meanwhile, dynamics on the ground also receive attention from the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) which monitors the security escalation in the conflict region. TPNPB highlights the increase in Indonesian military operations that goes in tandem with the entry of large-scale investment projects in the land of Papua.
​The policy of placing Indonesian military personnel and expanding commercial land concessions is called to be the main trigger for the increasing social tension in the region. This is assessed to harm the rights of indigenous peoples over the ownership of customary land and their living space.
​FSPM-PRP reminds that in a democratic country, every citizen has the same right to convey opinions freely, peacefully, and responsibly. Therefore, security guarantees from all parties become an absolute prerequisite for the smooth running of this action. (One Papua)
