SENTANI — The West Papua National Committee (KNPB) Sentani Region, Wenyana Yeik Sector, held its 3rd anniversary commemoration in Yahim, Sentani, Jayapura, Papua. This momentum was utilized to strengthen the consolidation and capacity of the civil movement at the grassroots level to respond to the security and humanitarian situation in the land of Papua.
The event, which took place solemnly, was attended by a number of central figures of the organization, sympathizers, as well as the local indigenous community. This year's commemoration carried the theme of strengthening the capacity of fighters and expanding the movement's network toward a national civil strike, and brought the sub-theme of realizing a democratic revolution through unity.
The series of events began with a ceremony and the cutting of an anniversary cake accompanied by the KNPB Mars song. A number of organizational leaders gave political speeches alternately, including the General Chairman of the Central KNPB Agus Kossay, representative of the Sentani KNPB Management Board Sadracks Lagowan, Chairman of the Wenyana Yeik Sector Yustinus Wisal, as well as representatives of community figures.
In his speech, the central leader emphasized the importance of building a solid base of power directly in the midst of the community. Internal consolidation and strengthening the capacity of human resources were assessed to be the main prerequisites to resolve the humanitarian crisis and realize the right to self-determination for the Papuan nation.
"The power of the people is the main condition for the liberation of Papua from the military emergency conditions and the humanitarian crisis currently hitting," said Agus Kossay, Monday (1/6/2026).
Meanwhile, the regional management encouraged cadres at the sector level to be more mature in organizing the movement, especially in the Yahim area and its surroundings. Neat and measurable organizational management was assessed to be highly necessary in facing the current regional political and security dynamics.
Furthermore, cadres at the grassroots level were also asked to start preparing themselves to face the national action agenda planned to take place in the upcoming August. The period between June and July will be focused as a time for preparation, strengthening organizational structure, as well as aligning the strategy of the struggle in the field.
This KNPB civil movement runs in the midst of conflict dynamics that still continue in Papua. This condition is also colored by armed actions from the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB). The prolonged conflict between the TPNPB and the Indonesian military until now remains a major concern of various human rights institutions, both at the national and international levels.
The anniversary celebration was concluded with a photo session and eating together as a form of solidarity among members. This agenda became a reflection on the journey of the organization as well as consolidation to expand the movement network in the Sentani region. (One Papua)
