PAPUA — The Central Headquarters Management of the West Papua National Liberation Army (KOMNAS TPNPB) has officially declared its rejection of the decision made by the Provisional Government of the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) led by Benny Wenda. This rejection pertains to the ULMWP cabinet announcement on April 30, 2026, which unilaterally included the names of high-ranking TPNPB officials into their government structure.
The General Chief of Staff of TPNPB, Major General Terianus Satto, emphasized that TPNPB was completely unaware and had never given consent for the appointment of High Commander General Goliath Tabuni, Deputy Commander Lieutenant General Melkisedek Awom, and Major General Lekagak Telenggen into Benny Wenda’s cabinet. He considers this action a form of unilateral annexation that violates the law and the organizational mechanisms applicable within the TPNPB.
"TPNPB and the ULMWP version of the Provisional Government have never made an agreement and have never decided on a joint stance to appoint General Goliath Tabuni, Lieutenant General Melkisedek Awom, and Major General Lekagak Telenggen to join Benny Wenda's cabinet," stressed Major General Terianus Satto in his official statement.
He added that the decision of the ULMWP Provisional Government under Benny Wenda's version is a form of law violation because it unilaterally annexed TPNPB high-ranking officials into their structure.
In the press release, Satto also emphasized that the TPNPB has its own leadership hierarchy and decision-making mechanisms. He views the inclusion of these names as a systematic effort to destroy the struggle from within. "The annexation of the names of KOMNAS TPNPB high-ranking officials into the ULMWP version of the Provisional Government led by Benny Wenda is an effort to destroy the TPNPB and the struggle of the Papuan nation from within and abroad," he said.
The TPNPB also issued a stern warning to Benny Wenda, Buchtar Tabuni, Simion Alua Surabut, and their group to immediately provide an open clarification. Satto urged all elements of the struggle, from students to civil society, to remain vigilant against this unilateral claim.
"We firmly reject the unilateral decision of Benny Wenda and his staff who announced their cabinet on April 30, 2026, which included the names of TPNPB High-Ranking Officials illegally and in violation of the law," Satto stated.
The Central Headquarters Management of KOMNAS TPNPB demanded that all forms of military coup attempts against their institution be stopped immediately. TPNPB stated they would not hesitate to take firm steps if this warning is ignored by groups deemed to be damaging the organization's reputation at the international level.
"If this is not heeded, then the people who are destroying our struggle, you must be ready to accept the consequences and the law of the jungle is ready to be enforced," Major General Terianus Satto emphasized through the TPNPB OPM Spokesperson, Sebby Sambom. ***
