NDUGA — The Management of the KOMNAS TPNPB Headquarters has officially announced a status of national mourning over the death of one of the best sons of the Papuan nation in a fierce battle in the Nduga region. Based on an official report received from the Commander of TPNPB Kodap III Ndugama Derakma through the Mugi Battalion, Major Neremunus Gwijangge, a heavy shootout occurred between TPNPB forces and the Indonesian military apparatus on April 28, 2026, at Yuguru River, Meberok District, Nduga Regency.
In the armed contact that took place on the battlefield, the Deputy Commander of Operations for the Mugi Battalion, Peltu Us Mabul, familiarly known as Ket Mabul, was reported killed. Following the incident, the deceased's body was successfully evacuated for a proper burial. The passing of Peltu Us Mabul leaves a deep sorrow for the independence struggle, considering the deceased was a figure who had dedicated 11 years since joining TPNPB in 2016.
The late Peltu Us Mabul was widely known as an elite force member who was active and loyal on the front lines of resistance to reclaim the independence of the Papuan nation. The military career of the deceased within the organization continued to rise until TPNPB eventually entrusted the deceased to serve as the Deputy Commander of Operations for the Mugi Battalion in 2022 through a reorganization process. During the term of service, Peltu Us Mabul was seen as a symbol of soldierly loyalty that never wavered in the face of colonial military pressure.
As a form of final respect for the services of the deceased, TPNPB Kodap III Ndugama Derakma, consisting of 3 Kowip and 13 Battalions, officially declared national mourning to all Papuan people. This statement is fully supported by the Management of the TPNPB KOMNAS Central Headquarters, which asked all elements of the struggle to take an example from the sacrifice of Peltu Us Mabul on the field of battle.
TPNPB Spokesperson, Sebby Sambom, in the press release urged that the spirit of struggle must continue to burn even though one of the best officers has fallen. TPNPB instructed all TPNPB forces in the 36 Defense Regional Commands spread across the Land of Papua and all Papuan people not to be afraid. "The Management of the TPNPB KOMNAS Central Headquarters urges all TPNPB forces in the 36 Defense Regional Commands across the Land of Papua and the Papuan people to remain loyal and sacrifice in order to reclaim the independence of the Papuan nation from the shackles of Indonesian colonialism," Sebby Sambom emphasized in the official statement.
The death of Peltu Us Mabul at the age of 27 becomes a new historical record in the timeline of resistance in the Ndugama region. TPNPB emphasizes that this sacrifice will not be in vain and will instead become a spark for other TPNPB forces to continue the mandate of the struggle until the full sovereignty of the Papuan nation is achieved. ***
