KENEYAM - Forces of the West Papua National Liberation Army Command Defense Region III Ndugama Derakma (TPNPB Kodap III Ndugama Derakma) launched an attack on the Yousema Post in Nduga Regency, Highland Papua, on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at around 14:24 WIT.
This attack resulted in three Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) members killed and several other Indonesian military personnel injured.
The attack operation on the Indonesian military post was carried out by a combined force from the Alguru Battalion and the Mapnduma Battalion. This armed action on the ground was directly led by the Commander of the Mapnduma Battalion, Mayor Elabok Beon, alongside the Commander of the Alguru Battalion, Mayor Army Doronggi.
Deputy Commander of Operations of TPNPB Kodap III Ndugama Derakma, Mayor Tekonus alias Waria Wandikbo, emphasized that this attack was carried out under his direct orders. "The attack on the Yousema Post belonging to Indonesian military personnel in Nduga killed three Indonesian military personnel and injured others under my orders. Therefore, we are ready to take full responsibility for all victims from the Indonesian military," Waria Wandikbo said, Monday (31/8/2026).
A gunfight between TPNPB forces and the Indonesian military occurred for several hours under the field command of Asbak Gwijangge. TPNPB forces ensured there were no casualties from the TPNPB side in the battle, while casualties fell on the Indonesian military side who had just arrived at the post via the water route.
Leader of TPNPB Kodap III Ndugama Derakma, Brigadier General Egianus Kogeya, declared full readiness for the armed action. TPNPB requested the Indonesian military not to launch retaliatory attacks on civilian residential areas so as not to victimize innocent people.
Meanwhile, TPNPB tightened traffic rules along the Keneyam-Batas Batu and Keneyam-Mumunggu trans roads. Civilian drivers of two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles are required to roll down car windows and not wear helmets when entering the operation area.
TPNPB issued a firm warning for civilians and parties alleged to be Indonesian government intelligence agents. People proven to be part of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) or Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) were urged to stop such monitoring activities.
The evacuation process for the killed and injured victims from the Yousema Post was reported to have taken place since morning. A number of Indonesian military helicopters were deployed from 07:00 to 14:00 WIT to transport victims to central Keneyam Town for medical treatment and shipment of bodies to their respective places of origin.
