TOLIKARA - Thousands of residents crowded the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) Office of Tolikara Regency, Highland Papua Province, on Monday (6/7/2026). The crowd demanded accountability from the government and law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate the killing case of a 19-year-old civilian named Alias Papuagen Penggu, alias Korona.

​The victim was a resident of Kimuggu Village, Telenggeme District, who was reported dead as a result of acts of violence. Based on the chronology of events, the victim initially made a journey from Tolikara to Wamena on 27 June 2026.

​During the journey, the Indonesian military allegedly pursued the victim to the Puncak Mega area, Kubupaga. At the location, the victim was detained and killed, and then his body was hidden in the bushes by the roadside.

​The family, who lost contact, then conducted a search along the victim's travel route. After three days of searching, the body of the teenager was finally found by the family on 30 June 2026.

​The shooting incident itself occurred in Puncak Mega Kubu Belela, Tolikara Regency, on Saturday 27 June 2026. The perpetrator of the shooting is suspected to be a member of the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) who was on duty in the Tolikara Regency area.

​The protest rally in front of the Tolikara DPRD building proceeded under tight escort from security forces. The crowd urged the police and military institutions to immediately identify and prosecute the rogue officers involved in the killing.

​The victim's family asserted that the victim had no connection with any armed group. "We demand that justice be upheld and the perpetrators be punished as severely as possible because the victim was a pure civilian who was innocent," said a family representative, Monday (6/7/2026).

​Residents stated they will continue to monitor the handling of this case until the legal process runs transparently. (One Papua)
