PAPUA - Indonesian military personnel reportedly launched an airstrike using unmanned aerial vehicles in the Intan Jaya Regency area, Central Papua. The attack targeted two locations, namely Balamai Village in Hitadipa District and Danggoa Village in Agisiga District. Based on gathered information, the aerial bombardment occurred twice in the early hours of the morning around 04:00 Papua Time (WP).
The West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) confirmed the existence of the airstrike targeting civilian settlements in the two districts. "Indonesian military dropped grenade bombs using camera drones about two times," Sebby Sambom said, Monday (22/6/2026). The sudden attack reportedly triggered a major panic for local communities located around the scene.
Meanwhile, the number of casualties or total material losses due to the grenade bomb explosions until now cannot be confirmed. The process of monitoring and data collection in the field experienced serious obstacles due to the disconnection of the communication network in the affected area. Isolated geographical conditions worsened the difficulty in updating the latest information from the bombing location.
TPNPB even mentioned that the increasing intensity of Indonesian military operations in Intan Jaya has worsened the security situation of civilians. The impact of this airstrike forced some village residents to leave their homes to seek shelter. Local residents reportedly chose to flee to the forest area to avoid detection by military camera drones.
TPNPB also requested the attention of international humanitarian organizations over the escalation of armed conflict that continues to occur in the Central Papua region. Until now, the situation in Hitadipa District and Agisiga District is reported to be still tense and under tight supervision. (One Papua)
