TPNPB Burns Excavator in Yahukimo, Demands Evaluation of Indonesian Military Operations

YAHUKIMO - The West Papua National Liberation Army-Free Papua Organization (TPNPB-OPM) Defense Regional Command (Kodap) XVI Yahukimo Yallenang Battalion burned one unit of an excavator on Seredala Street, Dekai City, Yahukimo Regency. The burning action of the heavy equipment which is referred to as belonging to the Indonesian military is described as a form of rejection toward development activities in the region.

TPNPB Spokesperson, Sebby Sambom stated the Management of the Central Headquarters of the National Command (KOMNAS) TPNPB has received an official report regarding the burning operation from Dekai City, Friday (19/6/2026). This sabotage action was reported to run under the instructions of the Commander of TPNPB Kodap XVI Yahukimo, Brigadier General Elkius Kobak, together with the Operations Commander, Mayor Kopitua Heluka, as well as the command ranks of the Yallenang Battalion.

Meanwhile, the Operations Commander of the Yallenang Battalion, Mayor Korowai Sonyap reported that this movement is a direct response toward the deployment of Indonesian military personnel in Yahukimo Regency. The policy of sending troops from the Infantry Battalion (Yonif) 521 by the central government in the framework of securing the Papua-Papua New Guinea (PNG) border is assessed by TPNPB to have entered a armed conflict zone, thereby triggering resistance from TPNPB.

TPNPB emphasized readiness to be fully responsible for the burning action of the heavy equipment. TPNPB also urges the Government of Indonesia, specifically President Prabowo Subianto, to evaluate regulations as well as the issuance of a presidential decision regarding the dropping of hundreds of thousands of troops. TPNPB assesses that non-war military operations in 36 defense regional command areas frequently impact directly on the safety of civilians in Papua Land. (One Papua)
