Jayapura Police Forcibly Disperse KNPB Coffee Bazaar In Sentani

SENTANI - Jayapura Resort Police personnel forcibly dispersed a coffee bazaar activity held by the West Papua National Committee (KNPB) Sentani Region next to the Pasar Lama Sentani traffic light.

Security forces approached the location at around 20.40 WIT to stop all trading activities and prohibit the flying of resistance attributes.

"We were approached by the Jayapura Police party at the Coffee Bazaar location," said the coffee bazaar coordinator, Tuesday (16/6/2026).

The police intervention triggered negotiations between the organizing committee and security officers on the ground. Police emphasized that the joint team arrival was based on superior orders to seize the West Papua National Committee flag.

The committee's persuasive steps succeeded in preventing the seizure of these attributes by forces to the Jayapura Resort Police Headquarters. Officers still strictly prohibited the flying of banners or resistance cloth while commercial activities took place in the Sentani region.

This dispersal operation involved full force with the support of three patrol car units and two two-wheeled vehicle units. Meanwhile, around 40 joint personnel were deployed to the location to ensure all prohibition instructions were fully complied with.

The situation around Pasar Lama Sentani was reported to be gradually conducive after the committee agreed to lower all political symbols. Tight supervision from the Indonesian military along with intelligence units is still ongoing around the scene of the incident to anticipate further movement. (One Papua)
