PAPUA — The Central Headquarters Management of the National Command of the West Papua National Liberation Army (Komnas TPNPB) announces national mourning over the death of Ratius Murib, alias Neson Murib S.IP, who was one of the officers and strategic liaison team of TPNPB.
This announcement was delivered after the Central Headquarters received an official report from the TPNPB forces at the Gilonik Headquarters regarding the passing of the freedom fighter.
"The late Neson Murib S.IP was a freedom fighter of the Papuan nation who was faithful in duties and responsibilities for the nation and the Land of Papua," said the Spokesperson of TPNPB, Sebby Sambom, Saturday (30/5/2026).
Neson Murib breathed his last at the Gilonik Headquarters on 16 May 2026 at 00.05 at night after suffering from malaria illness for two weeks.
As a form of last respect for his dedication and struggle, TPNPB officially buried the late with a military ceremony at the Gilonik Headquarters.
TPNPB views Neson Murib as a true role model figure for the young generation of Papua in the movement to maintain the dignity and worth of the nation.
Neson Murib had a very crucial role as a liaison team that connected the Central Headquarters with the Defense Regional Command (Kodap). His duty area covered a very wide defense area, including Kodap XXIV Guragi, Kodap XXV Yambi, Kodap XXVI Kwiyawage, Kodap XXVII Sinak, Kodap XXVIII Yambi, up to the Beoga region.
In his track record, the fighter born in Kwiyawage on 16 October 1994 was known to be willing to sacrifice until he was once arrested and imprisoned by security apparatus. After facing the detention period until free, the late remained consistent and faithful in the armed struggle line until the end of his life at the age of 32 years.
As a young bachelor, Neson Murib was much involved directly in the battlefield together with General Goliath Tabuni and Major General Lekagak Telenggen. The officer graduated in political science joined in leading forces in battles against the Indonesian military in the regions of Tembagapura Timika, Puncak, up to Puncak Jaya.
Before plunging fully into the conflict field, the late pursued a very good formal education path at several school levels. Neson Murib was recorded to have once undergone education at SD Inpres Mume in 2000, SMP Negeri 1 Ilu in 2006, and SMA Mulia in 2009.
After graduating from middle school, he then decided to wander and continue college at Warmadewa University Denpasar Bali in 2012–2017 until graduation. After achieving the Bachelor of Political Science degree, all the knowledge obtained was directly contributed for the independence movement by returning to the Land of Papua.
The late was the second child of six siblings, born to the couple of Father Lemun Murib and Mother Kaga-Kagak Tabuni within a fighter family environment.
TPNPB appeals to all the people of Papua, especially Papuan youth, to follow the footsteps of Neson Murib in completing higher education but not forgetting the homeland.
The higher education achieved by the late is called as the main capital to fight for the rights of the Papuan nation, not to seek positions in the colonial government.
TPNPB emphasizes that school is a means of struggle, and Neson Murib has proven it by spending his entire soul and body in the battlefield.
Meanwhile, this national mourning announcement has been disseminated to all forces in 36 Defense Regional Commands across the Land of Papua. TPNPB also asks all sympathizers and freedom fighters wherever they are to give the highest respect to the late Ratius Murib. (One Papua)
