PAPUA – National Command Spokesperson of the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB), Sebby Sambom, issued a moral call addressed to all Papua people amidst increasing security tensions in the Land of Cenderawasih.
In his official statement released on May 13, 2026, Sebby emphasized that currently Papua is in a condition that is not okay due to massive military operations conducted by Indonesian security forces.
He highlighted a series of violence events that claimed the lives of civilians in various regions starting from Puncak, Intan Jaya, to the Pegunungan Bintang and Ndugama regions.
Sensing this situation, Sebby Sambom urged all elements of Papua people, starting from government officials, students, to fighter groups, to abandon regional sentiments based on district or province administrative divisions formed by the Indonesian government.
He assessed that the use of names of student groups or organizations based on certain administrative regions actually weakens the strength of the struggle and diminishes the identity of the Papua nation.
According to him, the regional expansion carried out by the colonial government is a strategy to divide people's unity.
"Throw away those understandings of being proud of districts or provinces, that's it stop, throw it far away! That is a colonial formation, the colonial government of the Republic of Indonesia, we do not need it," Sebby emphasized.
He called for every protest action or solidarity movement to use a more general name such as the Papua Nation People's Solidarity to show integrity as one nation that is not fragmented by administrative regional boundaries.
Furthermore, he emphasized that all indigenous Papua people are nation assets who will play an important role after independence goals are achieved, including those who are currently still working within the Indonesian government system.
Regarding the presence of immigrants or newcomers, Sebby gave a warning not to be involved in espionage actions or support military operations that harm indigenous people. He asked newcomers to respect the host and not behave arrogantly on Papua land.
"Do not be arrogant! You make yourself like the master of the country then slaughter indigenous Papua people. Must know yourself, must know fear, must know sin," Sebby said closing his statement.
Through this message, TPNPB hopes for total consolidation from all layers of Papua society to unite in one command and one nation identity for the sake of saving the future of the people and nature of Papua from the threat of ongoing violence. ***
