KINGMI Church Urges Independent Investigation Regarding Air Strike Wounding Civilians in Intan Jaya

INTAN JAYA - The Department of Justice and Peace of the Synod of the Evangelical Tabernacle Church (KINGMI) in the Land of Papua urges an independent investigation into the air strike that wounded two civilians in Danggoa Village, Agisiga District, Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua. The incident, which occurred in the midst of the armed conflict between the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) and the Indonesian military, extends the long list of victims among the civilian population.

The event took place when a number of women were on their way home from the garden and about to wash their harvest in the Danggoa River. The sudden air strike caused two citizens, Otovina Hogajau and Agolu Pogau, to suffer serious gunshot wounds to the thigh and chest, respectively. Both victims have now been evacuated to the Sugapa Regional General Hospital (RSUD) to receive medical treatment.

"Women, children, the elderly, healthcare workers, church ministers, and the entire civilian population must not become targets in any conflict," said Pastor Deserius Adii, M.Th., Thursday (18/6/2026).

Meanwhile, the Synod of the KINGMI Church requests the Government and the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) to immediately go to the field to uncover the facts transparently. Security operations carried out by the Indonesian military are said to must still comply with international humanitarian law and prioritize the protection of the local population.

TPNPB is also expected to exercise restraint to prevent the widening impact of the humanitarian crisis in the interior regions of Papua. Pastor Deserius added that the resolution of this prolonged conflict can only be achieved through the path of dignity-filled dialogue and reconciliation, not through gun battles that continue to sacrifice civilians.
