KNPB Sentani and HPMDI Hold “Pesta Babi” Discussion, Highlight Militarization Issue in Papua

SENTANI — The Association of Students of Emdomen District (HPMDI) Jayapura held a film screening and interactive discussion titled "Pesta Babi" at the Social Sentani Church Hall, Jayapura. The activity, which took place from 18:30 to 21:53 WIT, was attended by students and local residents.

The event, packaged in the form of a joint screening, was followed by a public discussion themed "Papua Military and Humanitarian Emergency Zone" moderated by HPMDI member, Lapius Yando. The Chairman of the National Committee for West Papua (KNPB) Sentani Region, Sadracks Lagowan, was present as the main speaker in the forum.

Sadracks explained that the Papua region currently faces three crucial issues, namely alleged Human Rights (HAM) violations, increased militarization, and the impact of investment expansion considered to worry indigenous communities.

"In the midst of this military and humanitarian emergency situation, the Papuan people must unite to gather strength in the struggle for liberation," said Sadracks Lagowan, Sunday (7/6/2026).

Sadracks also added that elements of students, church institutions, and grassroots society need to strengthen consolidation and mass mobilization. This step is called part of the preparations toward a national humanitarian action planned to take place from August to September 2026 in the Land of Papua.

Meanwhile, the security situation in several regions of Papua is still colored by political tension. The National Liberation Army of West Papua (TPNPB) is reported to continue conducting mobilization of resistance against armed operations involving personnel of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), State Intelligence Agency (BIN), and Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) at the Defense Regional Command (Kodap) level.

At the end of the event, the Executive Board of HPMDI expressed appreciation to the KNPB for its participation in providing social and political education to residents. The series of consolidation activities concluded with the reading of a joint statement and a documentation session by all participants present. (One Papua)
