DEKAI - Joint Indonesian military forces shot and arrested six civilians consisting of local residents, an underage student, and a village official in the residential area of Kali Biru, Jalan KPU Lama, Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua on Tuesday, 1 September 2026 at around 17:00 WIT.
The arbitrary arrest and shooting action was carried out by officers by approaching the location of the residential area using five operational vehicle units.
The six arrested civilians are Yefri Kabak (26 years old), Daniel Kabak (19 years old), Asa Salak (20 years old), Meki Salak (40 years old), Pace Kambui (30 years old) who is a Village Official, and Pistir Moloma (16 years old) who still has the status of a Student/Underage Child.
In addition to the six secured civilians, one West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) member named Meck Salak who originates from Walma District, Waniok Village, Yahukimo Regency was shot in the upper left arm.
All victims were then brought to the Yahukimo Resort Police (Polres) in Dekai using the officers' operational vehicles for further security.
"The six civilians who became victims of arrest and shooting are completely not included in the Wanted List (DPO)," read a release by the Human Rights Defender (HRD), Thursday (3/9/2026).
The HRD emphasized that the violence and arrest action in the residential area of Kali Biru residents purely affected civilians who are not involved in the wanted list. (One Papua)
